The Art of Being Present

'IN, OUT

DEEP, SLOW

CALM, EASE,

SMILE, RELEASE,

PRESENT MOMENT,

WONDERFUL MOMENT'.

If you use this poem during sitting or walking meditation, it can be very nourishing and healing.

Thich Nhat Hanh

“If you try to calm your mind, it only makes it worse, but over time it does calm, and when it does, there is room to hear more subtle things – that is when your intuition starts to blossom and you start to see things more clearly and be in the present more. Your mind just slows down, and you see tremendous expanse in the moment. You see so much than you could not see before. It is a discipline, you have to practice it.” Steve Jobs

“Be happy in the moment, that’s enough. Each moment is all we need, not more.” Mother Theresa

“So, when the challenges come, as they always do, make a habit to go within at once and focus as much as you can on the inner energy field of your body. This need not take long, just a few seconds. But you need to do it in the moment that the challenge present itself. Any delay will allow a conditioned mental-emotional reaction to arise and take you over.” Eckhart Tolle

THE PEACE OF WILD THINGS by Wendell Berry

When despair for the world grows in me

and I wake in the night at the least sound

in fear of what my life and my children's lives may be,

I go and lie down where the woods drake

rests in his beauty on the water and the great heron feeds.

I come into the presence of still water.

And I feel above me the day-blind stars

waiting with their light. For a time.

I rest in the grace of the world and am free.

Our bodies leave in a present moment. They experience life moment by moment. Sometimes sensations in the body are very unpleasant or scary and its natural wanting to run away from there. Many people do not want to feel that and live in their bodies. Its natural to avoid something that is unpleasant. It is easier to move to 'the penthouse' - the head. Bodies experiences sensations – like energy floating inside, feelings like pain and emotions like anger. Being in touch with that equal being present.
